Acupuncture is a treatment approach to a diverse number of physical and emotional problems. It can also be used as a preventative treatment. Acupuncturists use very fine needles, you will only briefly be aware of their presence, moxa (a warming technique), massage, diet and herbs. To ensure your safety, quality single use sterile needles are used.

What can be treated?
Acupuncture can treat numerous conditions. Some common complaints include:

  • Pain
  • Menstrual and fertility issues
  • Headaches and migraine
  • Respiratory illnesses
  • Digestive & bowel problems
  • Tiredness, fatigue, stress and anxiety
  • Recurrent illness
  • Pregnancy related problems
  • Postnatal recovery
  • Maintenance of health

Acupuncture and fertility
Evidence is increasing which suggests acupuncture may assist in male and female reproductive health. Many couples receive acupuncture before embarking on fertility treatment programmes such as IVF. This enhances their health and helps them cope with the stresses and physical demands of these treatments.

Why are more pregnant women receiving acupuncture?
It is a safe and effective treatment during pregnancy. Most of the side effects of acupuncture are beneficial such as relaxation, which last beyond the treatment and later feeling energised. Acupuncture can treated or improve most of the problems, which arise during pregnancy.

What will happen at a treatment?
A detailed history will be taken and any areas of pain will be examined. The treatment options will be discussed with you. During the treatment you may be aware of changes happening to the body. Potential side effects will be discussed with you. If you are driving or cycling take time to adjust before starting your journey. It is advisable not to drink alcohol or be hungry prior to treatment.

How many treatments will I need?
This depends on your condition.
