Traditional Chinese Medicine

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) originated in China over 2000 years ago and mainly consists of acupuncture and herbal medicine. TCM theory is rooted in the Taoist concept of Yin and Yang, with a holistic approach to diagnosis, treatment, and health maintenance. TCM is still used today to treat a wide range of conditions, taking into account the effects of diet, lifestyle and the emotions, and any imbalances they may have caused.

What will happen during treatment?
TCM is holistic so a wide range of questions may be asked to develop a full picture of the condition. This will often include the digestive function and dietary habits, sleep quality and energy levels. The tongue will be checked and the pulse will be taken to assess the state of the body. Nutrition and lifestyle advice will then be given so that you can get the most out of your treatment. What can be treated?

Chinese herbal medicine is given in capsule form and is often suitable for chronic, complex conditions. Different herbs have unique properties which influence the internal system. Nutrition and lifestyle advice may be given first before prescribing medicine.

Some common conditions include:

  • Back/shoulder pain
  • Tennis elbow/Arthritis
  • Fertility problems/IVF support
  • Insomnia/Fatigue
  • Digestive disorders
  • Stress/Anxiety/Depression
  • Headache/Migraine
  • Respiratory disorders
  • Menstrual disorders
  • Skin conditions
