A-Z of Health: Ayurvedic Massage

March 17, 2016 by Lisa

Ayurveda is an ancient Indian medical system (over 3000 years old) that aims to maintain the health of the mind, body and spirit.

It works on the belief that all life forms are the combination of 3 ‘doshas’ - a unique mix of energies known as ‘Vata’, ‘Pitta’ and ‘Kapha’. Together they control how your body works both physically and emotionally. It’s thought that everyone inherits a unique mix of the 3 doshas – however, one is more dominant that the others. Each dosha contains a different body function, and your chances of getting sick are also believed to be linked to the balance of your doshas.

Ayurveda aims to maintain harmony between these energies in a natural way; the use of massage is a very important preventative and therapeutic practice. It uses essential oils, vigorous movements and deep tissue techniques to detoxify, rejuvenate and rebalance your body. It is excellent for boosting the immune system, relieving pain and stress, improving your circulation and adjusting to seasonal changes.

Fun Fact: Our Ayurvedic massage therapist, Ilaria Bucchieri, spent 4 months in India in 2009 training in a clinic of Trivandrum, Kerala.

If you would like to book an Ayurvedic Massage with Ilaria please call Lisa on 020 7275 8434.
